On February 14th, 2013 the creators of V-Day mobilized the largest global action day to end violence against women and girls to date: 1 Billion Rising. One billion people rising, striking, dancing in defense of the one billion who have been violated. Tens of thousands of events were organized in over 200 countries – we danced to shake up the world!
Men and women across borders, race, class, and religion came together as part of 1 Billion Rising to pledge an to end violence against women and girls and show solidarity around the globe.
Thanks The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education and the Stamford DVCC along with UConn’s anti-violence against women group Zero Tolerance, who helped organize the rising locally. Also, shout out to the First Congregation Church of Stamford for their involvement, as their bells rang out at the end of the event.
We have a video with more in depth coverage coming next week.
